BSI Solutions

Career Placement Program

The BSI Solutions Career Placement program provides student-centered tools and a phased approach that enables K-12 students to enter IT careers upon graduation. Our program partners with corporate, state and federal entities to strengthen their talent pipeline and align student skill sets to existing opportunities in information technology.

Why It's Needed

The current “college for all” model does not take into account the 26% of high schoolers that enter the workforce immediately upon graduation, or the 5% of students that drop out. Through our Career Placement Program, students are provided another option for higher paying careers in information technology that are traditionally harder to qualify for right out of high school.

Benefits

  • IT jobs marketplace analysis to identify skill gaps in classroom instruction
  • Practical, in-class, information technology experience informed by industry demands
  • Increased student exposure to a high earning career in information technology
  • Fostering excitement through lab experiences and the Student Tech Challenge
  • Internships and immediate careers upon graduation, bridging the gap for traditionally underrepresented students

How it Works

Smart Skills Data & Assessment

Our proprietary AI tool analyses each partnering school district’s regional job market and helps inform what specific skill sets are sought after in all current IT job openings in the area. A dedicated IT industry expert works in collaboration with the district and teachers to help enhance established curriculum and aid in designing practical labs that help enforce those skills based on the gathered data.

DL & Code Repository

Each school district is assigned a dedicated BSI industry expert who works individually with teachers selected by the district. The expert serves to provide support to teachers with regard to their IT curriculum, as well as assist in designing practical labs centered around the student, the subject or a problem. As students complete the labs, their work is stored in a Code Repository that showcases their developing skills. A graduating senior could utilize this digital portfolio to demonstrate their acumen to a prospective employer.

Internships & Career Placement

Students in our program will have the opportunity to enter internships during their 10th and 11th grade years either through BSI Solutions or through one of our corporate partners. An effort will also be made to identify internship opportunities in each school district’s region. Able and willing graduates of the program will then be matched with those same organizations to begin their IT careers upon graduation.

Corporate Partners

BSI Solutions relies on partnerships to aid in placing students in careers following graduation.  Our ever-growing list of organizations that we work with include the Goodwill, Department of Veterans Affairs, Duke Energy, Ally Bank and many more. While we have many established partners at the corporate, state and federal levels we are always searching for added relationships looking to give back to students. We are constantly looking to expand our partnerships and will work on securing partnerships in the regions where our program is installed.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Tech Challenge is an annual event hosted by BSI where students from different regions come together to collaborate and solve a particular information technology challenge. By inviting our corporate partners, students will have the ability to showcase their acquired skills and gain exposure to organizations that may look to hire them after high school. The event is similar to a “hack-a-thon” which typically incorporates high fanfare, ceremonies and awards.
It depends! There is a harsh reality that we face today in that not every student has the ability or funding to obtain a traditional 4 year degree. Our program serves to provide another path for the 31% of students who either dropout of high school or do not attend college. By providing them the extra guidance in the growing IT space, we can ensure high school graduates either enter college with a clearer direction, or they can go into higher paying jobs directly after high school.
While there is an operating cost associated with our program, we work with each school district to determine ways to source funding for implementation. We recognize that each school district is different with regards to size and budgeting, so each program can be tailored accordingly. Our dedicated grant specialists, through grants and sponsorships, can help fill the gaps from a fiduciary perspective. We believe that cost should not be a hinderance to meeting the educational needs of our next generation.
