Signing a digital signature on a cell phone

You can now get autographs from your favorite Celebrities digitally

Just about everybody knows what an autograph is. The opportunity to snag the signature of your favorite star is enough to get anyone excited, but what if you could get an authentic autograph…digitally? Thanks to the rising popularity of autograph NFTs, it’s now possible. Taylor Swift, Tiger Woods, and Tom Brady have all graced fans with authentic digital versions of their John Hancock.

What exactly is an autograph NFT? Generally speaking, an autograph NFT is a digital asset that has been autographed with an authenticated digital signature. These digital assets can range from digitally autographed photos and trading cards to music albums. Digital signatures have been gaining popularity in the last few years, but it’s recently hit a boom because of its integration with blockchain. Blockchain’s claim to fame is mostly due to the infamous popularity of Bitcoin which uses the same technology.

How does it work? The technology works by storing these assets on a blockchain. These unique digital assets cannot be exchanged because the blockchain securely keeps track of the authenticity of these signatures, sort of like a paper trail. A blockchain is a decentralized, distributed, and oftentimes public, digital ledger. It is usually associated with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, but because of its wide range of uses, blockchain is also being used to store and distribute NFTs as well.

NFTs are the newest way public figures are using technology to get closer to their followers. Digital collectables are becoming popular for those who want to have a piece of digital history. The next time you’re in the market for an autograph and can’t get a hold of a celebrity, NFTs might be the next best thing.
